17382174Celine (The Night Touched Chronicles #1) By Maegan Provan

Book Synopsis

Love
Destiny
and War

Created by the First Born, The Night Touched created the bloodlines from which all modern day vampires descended. Different because of their incredible powers and advantages in the human world, The Night Touched were a special kind of vampire. However, they were believed to have died out centuries ago, and had been reduced to little more than whispers in the vampire world.

Until now.

Harper Kemp was the only modern Night Touched in existence. The reasons behind her creation were unknown and she had been abandoned during her change. Eventually she was found by Lily and Jason and taught how to handle what she had become. She learned how to blend in with the human world and even made herself in to quite the socialite of the New York City elite scene.

After a plea for help in her dreams and the dangers of a forbidden love, Harper is sent down a path to discovery; not only is she not alone, she’s about to face her worst nightmare ― a devastatingly handsome slayer named Silas with a finger on her non existent pulse.

Claire's Review 5 of 5 Stars

Before I begin a book I tend to read the synopsis and a few reviews to get a feel of what to expect. This time I jumped straight into reading without any research before and i'm glad I did!

I loved the beginning of the book and found it really pulled me into the story and the characters and left me wanting to know more about the story ahead of me, in fact I struggled to put the book down and every spare minute I had I was nose buried in it!

I loved the twist to this book, I don't want to say too much and spoil it for anyone who wants to read, but I loved the dynamics between the characters and the struggle Harper has between what it right and what is wrong regarding her relationship with Silas. I also enjoyed the references to Harper missing human life.

A very good debut and well written! Looking forward to the next installment to see how the story continues!

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Author Bio

6941315 Maegan Provan is the author the Celine (The Night Touched Chronicles Book 1). She lives in Texas with her husband, their dog and two cats. Maegan loves to write and does so as often as she can; when she isn't busy at work, of course. When she isn't writing, Maegan spends lots of time with her husband; Skyping with her best friend and fellow author, Victoria Barrow; and playing copious amounts of Guild Wars 2 and Minecraft.

1.What inspired you to write your first book?
I have always loved vampires and the whole lore behind them. I was tired of seeing sparkly, childish vampires and I wanted to make a change.
2.Do you have a specific writing style?
Yes, procrastinating. I will sit down with every intention of writing and then I spend the next four hours on Facebook!
3.How did you come up with the title?
The title has gone through a lot of changes, but I decided that I wanted to title each book with the name of the Night Touched the others are looking for. And of course, the special vampires are Night Touched, so that kind of went hand in hand.
4.Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I think the biggest message is that you're not a lone. No matter how separate from the world you feel, there are others out there like you.
5.How much of the book is realistic?
A lot of the locations are real. I found some swanky places in New York that I thought the others would frequent. The only places that I made up are Tribianni's (the whole in the wall Italian place) and the club in Chapter 12
6.Are your novels based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
I think that the characters are a mixture of a lot of people in my life. Some more closely related than others.
7.Which of your novels have influenced your life the most?
I've only written the one. Ask me this question in a couple of years and I might have an answer for you, haha.
8.If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Tricia Drammeh. She has been my mentor and "Book Mama" since I started this thing. She is an absolute blessing and I am so grateful for her help and guidance.
9.What book are you reading now?
The Fifth Circle by Tricia Drammeh, actually.
10.What are your current projects?
Right now I'm working on Jeremy, Book 2 in The Night Touched Chronicles. I'm also working on a secret project right now that relates to the series, but it will be announced later this year.
11.Do you see your writing as a career?
Not yet, but I would love for it be one day.
12.If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
I would make it a bit longer, but I like the way it came out. It left me a lot of room to play for the rest of the series, which I hope my readers appreciate.
13.Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
My Granny was a writer and I wanted to be like her. Time went on and I went through some phases, but I think that's really where it started.
14.Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Sure... It's pretty rough though, I'm still in the first draft.

New Orleans was awfully humid, even in the later months. I couldn’t really say “cooler” because it didn’t seem to get anywhere near cool in the South. I walked down the sidewalk of a less crowded street, in search of food. The others had gone off some other direction, and I was thankful to be alone. It seemed like I never had any moments to myself any more.
There was a quaint little cafe on the corner across from where I stood, and a group of hipsters sat around one of the wrought iron tables, every single one of them had their faces down staring at the brightly lit screens of their phones. Getting one of them away without the others noticing wouldn’t be hard at all.
As I made up my mind to cross the street and start narrowing down my choices, I heard someone cluck their tongue in disapproval behind me. I turned around, trying to find the source of the sound. Not seeing anyone, or having a real clue where the sound came from, I shrugged it off and crossed the street. I looked back once more, and there he stood, as handsome as the day I had first met him. Silas crossed his arms at me and shook his head in disapproval. I gasped, rubbing my eyes to make sure my vision was clear. When I opened them again, he was gone. It must have been my imagination. I shook my head and continued towards the café.

15.Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Staying focused and motivated. I couldn't tell you how many times my frustration has gotten the better of me. I think I've quit three times this week? (lol) I think it's normal, though. All writers have their moments.
16.Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
Mentally, yes. I watch videos on youtube and google for details. I can't really afford to go out and travel to all of these places. I'm lucky to have some amazing sources though.
17.Who designed the covers?
The amazingly talented Skylar Faith of truenotdreams.weebly.com
18.What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Getting up the courage to publish it. I was afraid that no one was going to like it. Thankfully, I was wrong. I've had a couple of bad reviews, but they're nothing compared to the warm welcome that my readers have given Celine
19.Do you have any advice for other writers?
Don't give up! Plain and simple. You want to be an author? You want people to read your work? Then get to it! No one is stopping you but you!

20.Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
You all have been so amazing and wonderful and I am so glad that you guys like Harper, Celine and all of the others. I hope that you stick by me through the rest of the series. I love you all more than you know.
