TrueLoveFirstKissTrue Love's First Kiss by Heidi Garrett
Series: The Queen of the Realm of Faerie 1-3
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication date: June 18th 2013

Synopsis:
In the Enchanted World, true love’s first kiss is magic.

Nandana’s Mark, Book 1: When two half-faeries—Melia and her younger sister—are cursed under dreadful circumstances, true love’s first kiss is the remedy.

The Flower of Isbelline, Book 2: Nothing but true love’s first kiss can save Melia’s younger sister from blind ambition and ruin.

The Dragon Carnivale, Book 3: Melia must choose the freedom she cherishes or true love’s first kiss—and a relationship that promises to secure her place in the Whole.

The Queen of the Realm of Faerie is a fairy tale fantasy series that bridges the Mortal and Enchanted worlds. The main character, Melia, is an eighteen-year-old half-faerie, half-mortal. She lives in Illialei, a country in the Enchanted World, with her two sisters and their mother. Melia’s father has been exiled to the Mortal World, and her best friend is a pixie.

When the story opens in the first book, Melia is troubled by her dark moon visions, gossip she overhears about her parents at the local market, and the trauma of living among full-blooded faeries with wings—she doesn’t have any.

As the series unfolds, the historic and mystical forces that shape Melia’s life are revealed. Each step of her journey—to find the place where she belongs—alters her perceptions about herself, deepens her relationships with others, and enlarges her world view.

True Love’s First Kiss is a compilation of the first three books in this ongoing series.

Heidi Garrett’s 10 Favorite TV Shows

I didn’t watch a lot of TV until we discovered Netflix. Then came DVR. Now, TV shows are as much of a habit—feeding my craving for character and story—as my overstuffed Kindle.

My Top 5 Wannabe Female Characters

“When we’re fully engaged in story, our boundaries dissolve. We become the protagonist, feeling what she feels, wanting what she wants, fearing what she fears—” Wired for Story by Lisa Cron

That’s why I enjoy my favorite female characters as much as I do. Maybe I’m not a brilliant forensic anthropologist, the sophisticated and savvy wife and mother of an up-and-coming politician who can’t keep it zipped, a trigger-happy explosives expert, or an insightful shrink with fascinating clients; and maybe I don’t have my own boutique law firm, but I do get to vicariously experience the lives of these fascinating female characters whenever I sit down to watch one of my favorite TV shows.

Bones: Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel)

The Good Wife: Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies)

Necessary Roughness: Dr. Danielle “Dani” Santino (Callie Thorne)

Burn Notice: Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar)

Harry’s Law: Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates)

My Top 5 Love to Watch Them Couples

“Story is about change, which results only from conflict...pitting two opposing desires, facts, or truths against each other inherently incites conflict.” Wired for Story by Lisa Cron

What about a TV show starring a couple of characters who have opposing desires, sets of facts and/or truths?

Elementary: Sherlock Holmes (Johnny Lee Miller), a neurotic-obsessive recovering addict, is paired with Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), an even-keeled sober companion, hired and paid for by Holmes’ estranged father.

The Mentalist: By the book, senior special agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) leads the California Bureau of Investigation’s Serious Crime Unit. She gets teamed up with eccentric, independent, tea-drinking consultant Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), who breaks all the rules—and gets away with it, much to Lisbon’s admiration and irritation. Both are haunted by their pasts, but Jane’s is a little bit darker.

Dexter: Serial killer/vigilante Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) most lasting partnership has been with his adopted sister, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter), a potty-mouthed and ambitious police detective committed to closing every case.

Rizzoli & Isles: Rough around the edges tom boy and self-made detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) befriends and solves cases with the prissy, fashionable, more socially adept Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander).

Boston Legal: Denny Crane (William Shatner) and Alan Shore (James Spader) are red and blue, Republican and Democrat, conservative and liberal, but they always share a drink and a smoke on the balcony at the end of the day. Would that we all could follow this friendly example of unity amid opposing views.

So who do you want to be? And who are your favorite hot TV couples?
