Review: Desolation by Derek Landy

Desolation (Demon Road, #2)Desolation by Derek Landy

THE EPIC NEW THRILLER CONTINUES.
The second book in the mind-blowing new supernatural thriller from bestselling author DEREK LANDY, creator of international sensation Skulduggery Pleasant.
Reeling from their bloody encounter in New York City, Amber and Milo flee north. On their trail are the Hounds of Hell – five demonic bikers who will stop at nothing to drag their quarries back to their unholy master.
Amber and Milo’s only hope lies within Desolation Hill – a small town with a big secret; a town with a darkness to it, where evil seeps through the very floorboards. Until, on one night every year, it spills over onto the streets and all hell breaks loose.
And that night is coming

Claire's Review 3 of 5 Stars

I firstly need to say that I really enjoyed Demon Road, which made me excited to read Desolation, however, it failed to hook me in as much as the first installment.

Desolation carries on pretty much exactly where Demon Road finishes. Amber is now trying to make it to Desolation Hill whilst in the run from several enemies. Unlike Demon Road, Desolation is told in several POVs which spoilt the story for me, they felt unnecessary and at times too long which made parts of the story very slow.

I also found that Desolation contained a lot more gore than Demon Road did and stretched hugely towards the horror genre, which at times felt inappropriate for the age it is aimed at. I am hoping book 3 will be a book improvement to the story.
