Author:  Vi Keeland

Publication date:  October 3, 2013

Summary:  Standalone, HEA

Book Synopsis

It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit.  Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life.  A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half.  But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way.  Too many emotions are dangerous.  Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them.  But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common?  A lot more than they bargained for.

Shona's review 4 of 5 stars

Not quite sure where to start with this one. So I'm just going to randomly talk about what I liked and disliked and hope that I can piece it together once I've finished.

This was a comfortable read, something that didn't take a lot of thought to stay involved. That isn't a negative thing. In fact its a positive thing. While I like books that make the reader think, sometimes they can be too tiring, comfortable easy reads are just that, you can sink into the story and be completely involved in what's going on without having to work to stay interested.

I loved the attraction between Elle and Nico, it never once felt forced. The only problem I had with this was that sometimes Elle's reactions to Nico, while they were probably written to come across as lust-filled I felt they bordered on the frightened which was a little jarring.

While the majority of the book was easy reading there was two scenes that wasn;t. The one where we discover exactly what happened in Elle's past, and the one where she tells Nico. Both of these scenes had me in tears. The emotion that was weaved into such a violent scene was unmistakable and Keeland has done a wonderful job with it. It is understandable why Elle doesn't openly share this information, and why she has lived her life the way she has. Until now. Until Nico.
