Bitter like Orange Peel blog tour and giveaway

Bitter Like Orange Peel by Jessica Bell
Publication date: November 1st 2013
Genres: Adult, Contemporary

Synopsis:
Six women. One man. Seven secrets. One could ruin them all.

Kit is a twenty-five-year-old archaeology undergrad, who doesn’t like to get her hands dirty. Life seems purposeless. But if she could track down her father, Roger, maybe her perspective would change.

The only problem—Roger is as rotten as the decomposing oranges in her back yard according to the women in her life: Ailish, her mother—an English literature professor who communicates in quotes and clichés, and who still hasn’t learned how to express emotion on her face; Ivy, her half-sister—a depressed archaeologist, with a slight case of nymphomania who fled to America after a divorce to become a waitress; and Eleanor, Ivy’s mother—a pediatric surgeon who embellishes her feelings with medical jargon, and named her daughter after “Intravenous.”

Against all three women’s wishes, Kit decides to find Roger.
Enter a sister Kit never knew about.
But everyone else did.

JESSICA BELL’S TOP TEN TV SERIES’

I’m a sucker for a good TV series. I watch a lot of them.

In fact, for a writer, watching a well-written and produced TV series is excellent for learning how to develop plot. When you think of how each episode in a series ends, you should implement that technique in your writing to create thrilling cliffhangers.

What technique? End a chapter by introducing a new conflict. Basically what you are doing is starting a new thread of the story at the end of a resolved thread. New writers often begin new chapters with the introduction of a new conflict. Easy fix. Look at all your chapter beginnings. How would the first paragraph/scene feel at the end of the previous chapter? Try it.

With no further ado, here are my Top Ten TV Series in alphabetical order because I cannot, for the life of me, decide any single order of preference.

It takes pretty smart storytelling to make an audience fall in love with a serial killer.

The first and only show that has ever made me cry from JOY.

Gritty dystopian science fiction that makes you believe in parallel universes.

Have watched this show since it began. The characters are so quirky and broken, how can you not love them?

One minute you believe one thing, the next you believe another. Keeps me on the edge of my seat at all times.

Ha! *eyeroll* First series I ever got hooked on, so much so that I lost sleep over it. It HAD to be here.

This is new. This is brilliant. If you haven’t seen it, see it now. Ever wondered what it would be like to meet yourself in other bodies and as other nationalities? Here’s your answer.

Wasn’t too keen on this at first sight, but once I started I couldn’t stop. Good old suspense and intrigue in this one.

Oh my God, the dialogue is brilliant. The WRITING is BRILLIANT. I wish I could write dialogue like this. I get writer envy every single time I watch it.

Motorcycle club crime drama. Love it. Knew I always had a biker chick in me. And no, I don’t watch it because of Charlie Hunnam ... okay, maybe just a little.

What are your Top Ten TV Series and why do you love them so much?
