Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins, #1)
Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble by H.P Mallory

Synopsis

FIRE BURN AND CAULDRON BUBBLE is the first book in the Jolie Wilkins series. If you like your books steamy (this is a paranormal romance series for adults, not for kids or teens!) and you appreciate a good witch, warlock and vampire romance triangle, read on!

A self-deprecating witch with the unique ability to reanimate the dead.
A dangerously handsome warlock torn between being her boss and her would-be lover.
A six hundred year old English vampire with his own agenda; one that includes an appetite for witches.
The Underworld in a state of chaos.
Let the games begin.

Life isn’t bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn’t have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat and a quirky best friend.

Enter Rand Balfour, a sinfully attractive warlock who insists she’s a witch and who just might turn her life upside down. Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost’s demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life!

Word of Jolie’s incredible ability to bring back the dead spreads like wildfire, putting her at the top of the Underworld’s most wanted list. Consequently, she finds herself at the center of a custody battle between a villainous witch, a dangerous but oh-so-sexy vampire, and her warlock boss, Rand.

Lisa's Review - 4 out of 5 stars

Jolie Wilkins is a struggling psychic when one day she gets a visit from a mysterious man, who changes everything. After  few visits to Jolie, her new client Rand flips her world upside down when he tries to convince her she is a witch. Hiring her to help him find out who killed his ghost client, Jolie can hardly believe it when she brings the ghost back to life! Rand the warlock opens doors Jolie never could have believed existed when he introduces her to a whole new paranormal world full of witches, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, fairies and more. But a war is brewing, and Jolie is now a much wanted commodity for the right side, and the wrong.

I enjoyed this first book in the Jolie Wilkins series. It is a light hearted foot into the paranormal world, with funny, ditzy characters nicely mixed in with the darker, brooding ones. There is a whole array of interesting people with a 'being' from every aspect of the paranormal world imaginable, and they are all very interesting to read.

I liked the storyline, and found myself warming to Jolie quickly. She was normal and relatable and I liked the spin on her witch powers. However as the book wore on she started to annoy me a little, as though as she grew into her powers her confidence grew and it went to her head a little bit. I hope further books in the series Jolie goes back to how she was at the start of the book.

The reason I knocked a star of this book is because its sold to us as a steamy paranormal romance series. There may have been some romance but I'm not sold on the steaminess from the first book. I am not easily pleased when it comes to sex scenes but there wasn't much to sing home about in this first instalment, so we'll see how the rest of the series pans out!
