Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood #8) Review

Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8)
In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages. Long divided as a terrifying battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was- or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny. As a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call up on both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate.

Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between her and John Matthew. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.

Lisa's Review - 5 out of 5 stars

Yes! The 8th instalment in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series bounces back from the one before and is jam packed with action, angst, heartache and hot loving!!
So if you read my review for book 7 in the series you will know I was disappointed, and mainly because the book centred around not one of the hunky Brothers, but in fact the sympathy, Rehv. And I have to take a little bit of my dislike at the sympaths back, as book 8 focuses more on the relationship between John Matthew, and the half breed sympathy, Xhex.
When the book started I wasn't one of Xhex's biggest fans, but by the end, and after some nice flashback glimpses on how Xhex came into the world, I found myself rooting for her and she and John are now up top shelf on my list of favourite characters from the BDB books.

As well as the love story that goes with Lover Mine, there is a helluva lot of action packed into this instalment with the war with the lessers, and the Omega, and more importantly, Lash, rolling out throughout the book. Instead of just a few punch fests between the vampires and their sickly sweet smelling enemies, this book notches it up and helps give this book a fast pace that carries on throughout.

I adored the ending of this book, and it brought tears to my eyes, which really showed me how much my opinion of Xhex had changed.

With a new love triangle introduced, and a certain Brothers sister showing up at the mansion, there's a lot to come in book 9 and I hope its as action packed and exciting to read as this one!
