The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa Review

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)
To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness….
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.
Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what and who is worth dying for… again.
Enter Julie Kagawa's dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins.

Shona's review 5 of 5 stars

I've been in a bit of a reading slump lately and having trouble choosing which of the 100's books I own to read. So why would I suddenly buy a new book in the shop without reading the blurb? Without having read anything else the author has written? Because the book called to. When a book calls to you, you have to listen. There is no turning back. Or at least for me. From start to finish I was caught up in this book, literally hanging on every word written.

I loved getting to know 'Fringer' Allison, learning about her life, watching her just trying to get through each day alive.. Poor Allison who put her on life in danger to save the life of her friend. I have to say i was a little surprised at how easily she made the decision considering how much she loathed the vampires, but then the girl has fought to stay alive every single day. This is just a slightly different fight to stay alive. I loved her inner struggle, her determination to keep her humanity, her refusal to let the monster inside her take control.

I loved this book so much  that the first thing I did when I was finished was rush out and buy the second book in the series.
