Review: Cold Granite by Stuart MacBride

Cold Granite (Logan McRae, #1)DS Logan McRae and the police in Aberdeen hunt a child killer who stalks the frozen streets. Winter in Aberdeen: murder, mayhem and terrible weather!

It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Four-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch, strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he's only the first. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City and the local media are baying for blood.

Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die. And if Logan isn't careful, he could end up joining them!

Kerry's 5 of 5 star review

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. I wasn't sure if I was going to manage to finish or even get half way through it with the murder victims being boys around my sons age, it also doesn't help we are from Aberdeen.
The way the author tells the story of the boys deaths is brutal but he also doesn't go into to much detail that would make you squirm. As mentioned before, being from Aberdeen I loved reading this and knowing that how characters were reacting having jokes with each other is exactly how we are here.
The story has you hooked from page one. I only downloaded a sample after a friend recommended this book to me but was soon buying the full version. I couldn't get enough I was up reading till 3am both mornings and was a bit tired for the school run in the morning. You never have any idea who the killer is just like Logan and that's what frustrates you.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series and will more than likely end up buying the whole lot. I have recommended this book to a few friends since finishing it and they have also told me how they can't put it down. 5 stars truly worth it.
