Series Revamp: Dylan Hart series by RM Gilmore

Recently the series has undergone a little revamp, receiving new formatting thanks to InkStain, a tidy-up edit from Hot Tree, and now a 'graphic' cover makeover!

The Scene

WARNING: Excessive Sarcasm & Adult Language

Irreverent twenty-something and journalist , Dylan Hart, has her little black heart set to cashing-in on the blood-drained bodies of seven prostitutes scattered throughout southern California.
In an attempt to write her first best-selling novel and pay off her ever growing student debt, Dylan begins the search for the culprit of the media-dubbed Vampire Massacres, diving head first into L.A.’s sanguinary ‘vampire’ subculture.
Not your daughter’s vampire story, The Scene escorts readers into an all too real sanguinarian lifestyle and drags them through a bloody good mystery. Horrible pun intended.

Where to begin?
I really struggled to stay focused in the first few chapters but once i settled into a good reading pace I was hooked.

In the beginning I remember thinking "this chick spends too much time dissing herself" and then I realised "this chick's real". Dylan Hart is not your usual heroine, she is not super confident, oozing sex appeal and she doesn't have super human powers. She is sassy with a filthy mouth, prone to sarcasm and has the funniest lines. I actually laughed out loud several times whilst reading.

This book was nothing like I expected and its most definitely not your typical 'vampire' book. It kept me second guessing ALL the characters until the very end. And now I'm left waiting for the next instalment.

Endless Night

WARNING: Extreme use of the F bomb. Reader beware.

The bitch is back in this second installment of the Dylan Hart Odyssey of the Occult series. The graciously irreverent Dylan Hart, is at it again this time from down in New Orleans. In an unfamiliar city, surrounded by ‘vampire’ elite, Dylan finds herself entangled in the underground world of blood and lust.

- Or is that bloodlust? -

Dylan is forced to sift through fact and fiction when she encounters a new, and much more frightening, villain. Voodoo. Who do?

I really don't know where to start with this review so for now I am marking it as read with its rating and I will be back later when my brain is capable of processing what it has read and is able to use words to describe it. Because right now it's stuck between OMG and ARGHH! and honestly it deserves more than that.

So a couple of hours later and my brain still cant deal. This is what this book will do to you, it will drag you in with the pretty dresses and the man candy and then it will drop you in the middle of the action leaving you asking WTF?

For the record I LOVE Dylan Hart, she is my kind of Heroine, she is foul-mouthed and opinionated and she is real. She has you laughing along with her and cringing at her mistakes. This is the kind of girl you want as your BFF.

I was reading this on my kindle and I realised I was at 94%, and my little heart was beating so fast from the pace of the story and then I realised that this book was almost over and I wasn't ready for it to be over. So I just stopped reading mid-chapter, mid-paragraph, about half way down the page. Just stopped. And then the suspense was killing me and I had to carry on and find out what happened. Well I can tell you what happened... Ms Gilmore left us with the mother of all cliffhangers. Smart cookie that she is h as left us all dangling, waiting on the release of Dylan Hart #3. And wait I will.

Sacrifice

WARNING: Contains cynicism known to cause laughter and suspense that may affect heart rate.

Dylan has found herself in quite the conundrum. Locked in her apartment with an unknown voodoo beastie hot on her tail. She's tits deep in death and it's knocking down her door. Literally.

Endless Night left you with your heart pounding and your stomach in your butt. Sacrifice will flip you upside down and take you on a ride that will leave your knees quivering and your head lying on the floor...literally.

I straight up loved this book. There was so much going on the story was constantly moving so you didn't have a chance to get bored in between big scenes, because everything felt like a big scene. I honestly did not want to put this down for anything for fear that I would miss something important. With the non stop action I started to feel like Dylan, anxious and a teeny bit scared. OK so maybe not exactly like Dylan but close enough.

One of my favourite things about this book? The addition of Mike. I know he has featured in all of the books so far, but he doesn't get much page time. Until Sacrifice. As much as I like the underwear model that is Cyrus Attosa, there is just something about the manly man that is Michael Peterson and it makes me want to bitch slap Dylan and make her realise this awesome guy (sure he has flaws) is sat waiting for her.

Like the earlier books in this series there are a few twists and unexpected turns and events that will keep you guessing until the very end (and beyond).
